Mynroe: 2016 Rewind *Lifestyle Edition*

Mynroe: 2016 Rewind

"Lifestyle Edition"

*Insight to Self-Discovery and Personal Growth*

"Knowing others is wisdom, knowing ones self is enlightment."
-Lao Tzu

2016--a year that kept the world both in extreme anticipation and heightened agitation. Both the news and social media had done a hell of job at keeping the mass population up with the Joneses and stealthily retaining the agile mind distracted with the many displays of irrelevant, senseless and/or disturbing behavior of humanity.

I am guilty not only by taking part in such circus show but irresponsibly distracted I had been by VOLUNTARILY giving energy, time and emotion to it all; which could have been invested in better and productive venues. Instead I found a lot of my line of thought to be occupied and fueled by both unwarranted judgement and biased self-righteousness.

Despite all the historical and talented legends we've lost, expectations that have been altered and a reality that has been hard to swallow at times--I end this year with more hope and faith than ever before.

Ironic? I believe not, just a very long and tedious journey of finding and fighting for my personal intent and right to shape my own perception as I see fit.

"With clear comprehension, we know the purpose and appropriateness of what we're doing; we understand the motivations behind our actions."
-Joseph Goldstein:"Mindfulness"

Among my many late nights or bored hours of daylight, I'm not sure--this year has been moments of blurred lines; I came across a clip of the adorable and hilarious Charlie Day giving a commencement speech to the 2016 Merrimack College graduating. His speech was not only true to his witty and comedic charm but true to his humble and down to earth unfiltered advice which he delivered with such intent and authenticity.

"I'm sure you've heard time and time again to 'Do what makes you happy' and I'm here to tell you that's bullshit. You are not going to wake up everyday happy. You're going to have to do things that you don't want to do but it's not about what makes you happy; it's about doing what makes you great!"

*Not verbatim but the gist of his speech*

I salute and admire anyone who goes against the grain and breaks tradition for the sake of speaking the truth. Seeing him in his formal higher education attire and seeing that tassel of his swing with each blunt point made, engrossed me even more into his speech.

That quote: "Do what makes you great" turned on one of the many light-bulbs in my head and instantaneously lifted so much pressure off my chest that I was unconsciously holding.

"Doing what makes you happy" has always been the goal preached to those wanting to more in life but no one seems to acknowledge the disclaimer that attempting such is a paradox.

Whose life has been all peaches, cream, rainbows and skittles? So what distress I found myself in when I would wake up and find myself so unhappy and unfulfilled! What shame! What guilt! What confusion!

That light bulb shed light on the writing on the wall--happiness is not only a choice but also a journey and at times a war. Happiness isn't always pretty, it isn't always clear and it for damn sure is not easy to come by. But greatness, greatness allows capacity for growth, it allows room for error and it forgives mistakes and it honors failure--acknowledging the intent and the will of trying.

"I am the greatest, I said that even before I knew I was."
-Muhammad Ali

If there is one thing that I can testify to is the fight that was asked of me and within me. My health had taken many unexpected turns last year *
that had me forced me to face the reality that having great dreams and aspirations does not make one immortal. I remember one of the many times of laying in a hospital bed with IV's in my arm, bruises from needles drawing countless amounts of blood; becoming somewhat numb to the health problem at hand.
I was physically, emotionally and spiritually exhausted. I didn't know what else could possibly be asked of me but simply having the will to survive.
Survive this day to make it to the next.

I had many days and weeks of being alone with just me and my thoughts, because my body was not in sync, it was doing it's own thing--that took weeks to figure out exactly what. So while in the "Waiting Place" I asked myself:

"Did I do enough? Did I leave something behind for them to remember? I feel that I haven't gotten where I want to be. I haven't done all that I want. There's so much left to do! "

Tears began to fill my eyes and gratitude flushed my face as I filtered throughout all the selfish and superficial definitions of success and instead saw the prosperity in the simple truths. That even if I didn't get to reach where I wanted, I had been living my life in the best way I knew to continue toward it.
That, I did.

"Then it doesn’t matter which way you go,” said the Cat.
“–so long as I get SOMEWHERE,” Alice added as an explanation.
“Oh, you’re sure to do that,” said the Cat, “if you only walk long enough.”

-Alice "Alice's Adventures In Wonderland

I acknowledged the determination, the authentic ambition that had been sowed and cultivated over the years. I saw the growth and evolution of a concrete rose and the unwavering intent of continuing about the journey

The journey is where the truth and story resides, not the destination. The journey is where you meet the obstacles, the surprises, the blessings, the falls and the strength that you never knew existed. You see the connection of dots of how all of the things that you meet along the way--people, places, chance encounters, phrases; in my case even a song at a certain time.

"Curiouser and curiouser!”
-Alice "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland"

Intrigue becomes a companion and the capacity of a more deeper and divergent perception becomes greater--if welcomed.

In the "Ring The Alarm" year of 2016, after years of passive-aggressively disregarding
I not only permitted but instructed myself to mature; to accept painful truths in order to process and move on. I opened the door to forgiveness--for others but mostly for myself, because one can not know greatness if one does not know failure.

And the truth is failure is inevitable on the journey to that grand destination, wherever it may be.

"You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space."
-Johnny Cash

In conclusion, 2016 had been a thorn from a blooming rose bush that lounged in my side. I've shed both blood and tears. I have sweated in efforts to continue despite the "thorn" because I knew that at the end there was a lesson (more than a couple); a personal and exclusive lesson was being extended to me to either take on or dwell in it's complexity. I choose to cultivate around and with the thorny bush--I have the scars that I proudly wear.

2017 will be a year of seeing this once annoying and at times seemingly unfair inconvenience, bloom into a colorful masterpiece that will not only be original but will surpass all expectations.

I intent on it!

"No one succeeds without effort...Those who succeed owe their success to perseverance."

1) Carli Bybel's 14 Colorshadow and Highlighter Palette by BH Cosmetics

"Beauty expert and YouTube sensation Carli Bybel designed this versatile BH Cosmetics 14 Color Eyeshadow & Highlighter Palette to dial up the drama and add excitement to your look. Carli's taste for chic refinement and modern elegance inspired her to select a collection of earthy neutrals and plummy brown shadows with four face highlighters that complement every skin tone. The mix of mattes and shimmers makes it easy to go from amped-up evening intensity to toned-down daytime options."

*What caught my attention from this advertisement is that it claimed to complement every skin tone; and it did just that! The plummy brow shadows have such a rich hue infused through out. The highlighters are so gorgeous that you will swear it's magic fairy dust. The quality of this product is phenomenal! LOVE!"

*"Miss Fabulous" that's when it caught my eye. Seeing a shade named "Virgo"--is what sealed the deal (September 22)! This palette has many different and FUN colors that come in various types; shimmer finish & matte finish are among them. It's perfect to play around with when creating new and original looks--it's a crayon box for the beauty girl! So much fun I had with product!*

3) Ben Nye Luxury Powder (Banana)

"Ben Nye Luxury banana powder provides superior matte and subtle finishing. Often compared to French powders with silky-fine textures. This is the now famous banana powder used on certain reality stars for that perfect finish by her makeup artist."

*As a woman of color I had been conflicted about Ben Nye Luxury Powder because of the uncertainty of what shade I should get to both highlight and compliment my skin tone. There are TON of videos and reviews from women of color that testify to how unsatisfied they are with the shade they purchased; but I noticed that no one was really complaining about the quality of the product and I now know why. Because the quality is BOMB! "Luxury" means actually that. From the application, setting and buffing-- this powder is capable of that and much more. "Banana" was the shade I purchased based on instinct; so when I saw how fine it blended in with my skin tone, I gave myself a pat on the back.*

Chic Republic Brushes (Rose Gold)- Mynroe Beauty Review

Last week was occupied with my infamous restless, short-sleep-lived-if any nights. It's become part of my identity and well-known among those who know me well that "Chelle is a night owl". I find it pretty sexy if I do say so myself. Perception is reality! ;)

Amazon is one of my companions in the late hours of the night--most of my shopping accounts are. I have the time and (like it or not) the energy to browse, search and research for things that have been on my mind. Plus, the recommendations are so exciting to scroll through--as a picky woman it is life for me! "No. Eww! What??? Shut Up! Yes!!! I didn't know that was a thing!"

And that is how I came about the Amazon recommendation for Chic Republic Makeup Brushes "Rose Gold Edition". I smiled at the title because I played in my head the magic that is Amazon saying: "Rose. Gold. Chic. Makeup. Yes, she'll be pleased with these words".

Clicking "Order Now" in less than a minute proved such theory correct! ;)

Let me first say that this is by far the most BEAUTIFUL Makeup Brush set that I have purchased. The "Rose Gold" title is not for giggles, it is legit infused with a Rose Gold color. Think about it, applying makeup to accentuate your beauty with beautiful instruments! *Sips Tea* Just the thought of the softness of them just makes me emotional--followed by a hair flip; LEGIT!

For this post I went about it with first providing the products "Brush Guide" for each brush. (Their wording is pure magic)!

And I will only be commenting on the brushes that I have currently used. As much I wanted to put every last brush to my face, the look I created did not require all of them but oh, the ones I did use--well, read for yourself.

Finished Look at the END! ;)

"Fine & Define"- Fall Inspired Look

Happy Saturday aka Creating Day!
In efforts to create diversity in my makeup skills, I decided that the first area of practice would be to experiment with different shades of lippies--lipstick, lip-liners, lip-gloss, etc. I have become obsessed with the amazing lip colors that appear on my IG timeline. A good lip goes a long way and creates a mood for the look that I want to portray, or like today finally using the products of my Beauty Haul a month ago!
*I have so many products that I have yet to use & I'm still not satisfied with my collection. I want more! I need more! *
This look was created with CoverGirl "Divine Wine" Lipstick lined with CoverGirl Lip-liner "Beloved". With it being Fall season I was set on purchasing plum/violet inspired products to create Fall inspired looks. Once again, my IG timeline is a beast in showcasing all the amazing looks and talented artists who create them. Respect and admiration!
This color I believe goes so amazing with the brown skin and as a woman of color I know the feeling of insecurity when picking out a new bold shade of lipstick. Not every color is going to mesh, so I was extremely pleased with this lipstick and lipliner. Another plus was that the lipstick itself was so full coverage and long-lasting that I had to put a little more elbow grease in removing it. I have to admit that one of my major pet peeves is when my lipstick fades or just disappears; this lipstick proved pro in limiting just that.

"Sugar Plum Fairy" : Mynroe Beauty

Wet N' Wild "Sugar Plum Fairy"

Fall is near and there are a ton of Fall colors to experiment with. Color me excited!
This color is "Sugar Plum Fairy" 908C by Wet N' Wild. I really enjoy the color scheme that Wet N' Wild offers--97% of them go AMAZING with my skin tone.
I decided to keep my eye very defined but soften it up with a brighten pencil by NYX in "Milk". This look--softly blended defined brighten eye and dark short loose waves, is my Go-To Fall Look. Not to mention it soothes the need for the aesthetics for the Cusp of Beauty Virgo that I am! XO

"Jazzy on Saturday"--Denim Week -Mynroe

"Jazzy on Saturday"--Denim Week *Mynroe

This look is most definitely a look for the weekend. I am a huge fan of distressed denim--anything, but it is all depends on the executed look around that particular piece.
The top that I choose is a nude, flowing, very feminine and soft top that will compliment and level out the shorts.
The booties, I just gagged over. They are just one of the most perfect pair of shoes I've ever seen. I saw all the possibilities in an instant.
I focus on not only the styling but also creating "moods" or an "environment" with my styling. And I try to incorporate art and graphics that help make the look and theme well-rounded. Can you just imagine that highlight with that top, dark lip and aqua shades??? Mynroe Style!!!
*By the way, those pieces that look like "chopsticks" for the hair are actually ear-rings!!!* XO

"Festive Friday Night"-Denim Week

"Festive Friday Night"-Denim Week

Festive for Friday for sure! I wanted to create a look that was for a the girl who is not only happy about Friday but Fri-Yay!
When I saw this patterned skirt it was the piece that I worked around. *A glimpse into my creation*
Of course I had to pop some color in there not only with the top but the phone case that embodies excatly what this outfit was in store for! *wink wink* The shoes are just the perfect subtle color that creates the head to top Mynroe Experience. And of course a girl out on the town needs to have her emergency bag of beauty, glasses to shade at night and hoops that go flawless with that Down Town girl hair flip! XO
